At least 92 people has died and more than 1.500 has been injuried in the earthquake which has hit l’Aquila, near Rome. This Monday, the quake has torn the town, destroying a large part of the medieval area. Rescuers are searching for survivors and injuried-people.
More than 50 000 people are homeless. The Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi declared the state of emergency.
The 6.3 magnitude quake, hit L’Aquila, about 60 miles north-east from Rome, where tremors has been felt.
Three significant aftershocks, ranging from magnitude 4.3 to 4.8, shook the area within six hours of the 6.3 quake. As a consequence, many small towns and villages around L’Aquila have been seriously damaged by the aftershocks.
